Capitol Chemistry with Mia - Final Day of the 89th Session

With the last day of the 89th Legislature on June 2nd, the halls of the Capitol have been buzzing with last-minute negotiations, late-night debates, and unpredictable floor actions. More happens in the final days of session than in the past four months combined.

Over 600 bills have made it to the Governor’s desk thus far—a fraction of the more than 9,000 bills that were filed. That number will continue to grow as bills clear their final hurdles.

Our team has worked on a wide range of priority issues that include tax incentives to attract new investment, securing long-term water supplies and improving water infrastructure, ensuring reliable and affordable electricity for our industry, defeating onerous environmental policies and product regulations, fighting lawsuit abuse, and promoting workforce development. Our legislative focus reflects the long-term needs of the Texas chemical industry and our state’s manufacturing sector.

This session has delivered a fast-moving and high-stakes policy environment, and these  final days will determine the outcome of major issues for our industry. Our policy team continues to fight for our industry, engaging with lawmakers, testifying in committee, and leading industry coalitions to ensure sound policies prevail.

Look for our final Legislative Report after the conclusion of the Governor’s VETO period. In the meantime, if you have questions or need more information about specific bills, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.

The final day of Texas’ legislative session is referred to as “Sine Die.” This Latin word means “without day” or “no further days.” On June 2nd when both the House and Senate finish their business, each chamber will “Adjourn Sine Die.”
